Fourth Grade Students: Some of our Biggest Fans!

Kathy Chalfant gathers the students around the Canon Perdido Street entrance to the Presidio to relate the story of "The Lost Cannon" in Spanish, Canon Perdido!

We see a lot of fourth grade students at El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park. In fourth grade, students study the history of their state. Our Presidio in downtown Santa Barbara is one of the key sites where they can connect to the early period of California history through an organized field trip.

On Friday, December 9th around thirty fourth-grade students and a number of chaperones from La Mariposa Elementary School in Camarillo ventured to Santa Barbara to visit the Presidio (over a 40 mile drive!). SBTHP docents Kathy Chalfant and Joy Podger gave guided tours of the Presidio to two groups from Nicole Sadowsky’s fourth grade class.

Students from La Mariposa School in Camarillo, California pose around the El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park sign at the end of their tour.

We enjoy hosting group tours at the Presidio. Have you considered planning a visit? For more information about scheduling docent-guided tours for your school or organization, please contact Meredith Brockriede at (805) 965-0093, Monday – Friday, between 9:00am and 1:00pm.

PS:  We heard that Ms. Sadowsky’s class will be reading this post– hello to all of you from everyone here at the Presidio!
