The Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation (SBTHP) is proud to present The Casa de la Guerra: Collective Biography and Vital Crossroads into a Noble Family in Northern Spain, a presentation by Mª (Mabel) Isabel Cobo Hernando on September 3, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the Casa de la Guerra (15 E. De la Guerra Street, Santa Barbara).

 

Learn about the history of the de la Guerra family, a noble family from Northern Spain, as they lived in the 17th and 18th centuries. Graduate student Mª (Mabel) Isabel Cobo Hernando of Spain discusses her research using methodology of collective biography, analyzing the family’s evolution and the realization of their collective projects.

 

Learn about the history of the family that built the Casa de la Guerra, one of the most important remnants of Santa Barbara's Spanish-Mexican heritage and once the social, political, and cultural center of the pueblo of Santa Barbara. The Casa de la Guerra has been at the heart of Santa Barbara's history since its construction (1819-1827) by Spanish-born, José de la Guerra, one of Santa Barbara's wealthiest and most influential citizens.
