In Memoriam:

Alférez Leroy Villa

Don Leroy William Villa was born Feb. 10, 1911 and died December 3, 1999.  Leroy's wife, Doña Margarita Delbrook Villa is standing next to him in the picture to the left.  Both Leroy and Margarita trace their ancestry back to the original founders of Los Angeles and to those founding families originally at the Reál Presidio de Santa Bárbara.
In 1995, Leroy, after his appointment as Alférez Invalido del Reál Presidio de Santa Bárbara, participated in welcoming ceremonies for the visit of Don Felipe de Borbón y Grecia, Prince of Asturias.  Los Soldados pose with the prince in this second photo.
Leroy Villa was a 6th generation descendant of Juan Jose Villa of the founding garrison at the Santa Barbara Presidio.
During the Bicentennial Reenactment of the De Anza Expedition in 1976, he became interested in the history and was appointed first officer and retired Alférez of Los Soldados del Presidio de Santa Barbara. He was a member of Los Californianos, the Descendants of Tucson, Los Pobladores 200 of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation and was founding
committee member #1 of Los Descendientes de Santa Bárbara.
