This first photograph is an authentic cuera from New Spain.  Luis took this picture in the Museum of the Army in Madrid.  It's not the kind of equipement that a member of the Batallón would use, but it shows rich military heritage that can be found in Spain.  Click on the photo to see a larger version.  You can also see modern version of the same type in a page for Robert Stevens, Alferez and cuera-maker for the Presidio of San Diego.
