Los Soldados

Soldiers of the Royal Presidio of Santa Bárbara

Los Soldados: Soldiers of the Royal Presidio of Santa Bárbara (Soldados del Reál Presidio de Santa Bárbara) is a living history interpretation group portraying Soldados de Cuera of the Spanish Southwest.

In April of 1990, this living history group formed in Santa Bárbara, CA to recreate the  Soldado de Cuera of the period 1769-1821.  After 200 years, this soldier has come to life again under the auspices of Los Soldados.  The group is chartered to authentically portray the Spanish presidial soldier by means of reenactments of military drill, use of period costumes, role playing, and research into period history.  Los Soldados are here to re-enact the soldiers, civilians and their families as they lived at the Presidio of Santa Barbara in the period of time following the founding of the presidio in 1782.  Uniforms, weapons, clothing, and equipment are as authentic as possible, utilizing antiques or reproductions.  Los Soldados participate in numerous historic events every year.

You are cordially invited to become a member of Los Soldados: Soldiers of the Royal Presidio of Santa Barbara.  Join us as we relive history in the eighteenth century at the Reál Presidio de Santa Barbara.
