1st ThursdayEnjoy wine and appetizers in one of Santa Barbara's most historic settings as the Trust presents the return of "Bridges of Santa Barbara County: Spans Across Time." Featuring historic images and contemporary photographs by photographer Wm. B. Dewey, this unique exhibit examines important bridges in Santa Barbara County, including many that are presently in-use as well as some historic bridges that have been abandoned or destroyed, including the controversial Nojoqui Bridge.

Also on display is the impressive, "Forged in Iron: The Expressive Art of the Roof Cross Tradition in Chiapas, Mexico." This exhibit is only up until November 11, 2007. Don't miss it!

In addition, winners of the Santa Barbara Independent's "Locals Only Santa Barbara Band Contest," as voted on by readers, will perform at the Casa de la Guerra.

Sons of the American Revolution to Recognize El Presidio de Santa Barbara

Join us for a special presentation by the Sons of the American Revolution at El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park. In recognition of Spain's support of the United States in the American Revolution the Sons of the American Revolution will read a proclamation and dedicate a plaque at El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park.

Classical Guitar Recital by Carlos Pérez

Join the Trust and Inocencio, F. Arias, Consul General of Spain in Los Angeles, for a candlelight guitar recital by internationally acclaimed guitarist Carlos Pérez (Chile, 1976). Pérez recently won the 2006 International Competition Joaquin Rodrigo in Spain.

Classical Guitar Magazine raved of Pérez, "He gets to the point of everything he plays"... "A master guitarist with true star quality."

Featuring a tasting of Spanish wine at intermission.

Winter Docent Training and Review for New and Veteran Docents

Have you ever wanted to learn more about Santa Barbara and Early California history? Well this is the opportunity you've been waiting for! The Trust's Education Department is proud to announce the Winter 2007 Docent Training and Review. This 5-part lecture/tour series is for both new and veteran docents and features a variety of guest speakers and special presentations. The 2007 schedule includes:

Friday, December 7 - 10 a.m. to Noon
Presentation by Louise Pubols, Historian at the Autry National Center, on the De la Guerra Family and their Casa.

Wednesday, January 9 - 9 a.m. to Noon
Overview of the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation and special invitation by the Santa Barbara Historical Museum. Presentation by Jan Timbrook, Curator of Ethnography at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, on the Chumash.

Wednesday, January 16 - 9 a.m. to Noon
Overview of the Santa Barbara Presidio, tour of the Presidio and presentation by California Department of Parks and Recreation Interpretive Specialist, Wes Chapin.

Wednesday, January 30 - 10 a.m. to Noon
Tour of the Casa de la Guerra by Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation staff.

Wednesday, February 6, - 10 a.m. to Noon
Presentation by Michael Hardwick on the History of the Spanish and Mexican Soldados in California and at the Santa Barbara Presidio. Talks by Ann Boggess (DPR) and SBTHP Docents on interpretation.
